when company comes over...

i can already tell this is going to be an "educational" summer for nershi...i'm working REALLY hard with him to teach him that he doesn't need to bark at every living thing that walks by...
::
i know he means well, but i find it frustrating when he chases someone and barks when they're pushing a stroller...or riding their bikes...or dragging their toddler in a wagon...or driving by in a car...
::
so far, he's not barking anymore with cars/trucks...and certain people/kids/bikes...
::
and the other thing that i'm working on is when company comes over...so far i've found the best "medicine" is for nershi to get a special treat...then he gets so wrapped up in that treat, that he's good and calm by the time he's finished it...or he's still enthralled in his treat even when they're ready to go!
::
last night, our friends daniel and sarah came over for a fun night of making our own pizzas (yum-o!!), movies, playing with sarah's new MAC!! fun!!!! and of course, as daniel says "the famous hannah milkshake!"
::
nershi LOVES his uncle daniel and always gets excited when he comes over...but just as we were about to eat dinner...mommy gave nershi a BIIIIG bone!
::
now, the wrapper says "chicken bone" but we all agreed i've never seen a chicken with a bone that big in its body!...but when you read the wrapper a little carefully it said teeny tiny in the top corner of the label...chicken "basted" bone...haha :)
::
here's nershi with his bone...notice how skeptical he is of me even taking his picture with the bone

he wandered around trying to find a good spot to enjoy this bone...he hit up the couch...

but then he came back to lay on the floor...because he couldn't see us from the couch...(such a herder...wanted to make sure we stayed all together at the table!)

...he must have carried this bone around for a couple of hours...before he got brave enough to start gnawin' on it!

and then, he went back to his favorite hangout!! we still get such a kick out of this...you wanna know the FIRST thing he did on the FIRST day i brought that little fuzzball home? he ran and laid down under our coffee table and went to sleep...and where does he like to chill two years later?? (especially when he has something he doesn't want to share)...under the coffee table!! even after we've rearranged, moved, rearranged again...

he's so funny under this table...this is his turf!! and i love the way he "peeks" out from under there...yeah, like you really can't see him under there! he does this a lot :)
::
i keep meaning to get a video of him "scratching his back" under there...it was super cute when he was little...but now that he's a big boy, he "pops" under that table and can nearly knock over a drink on the table! he and that table have so many memories!
::
...for example, i remember the day he got juuuuust big enough he couldn't run under there without ducking anymore...and he hit his head :(
::
and in case you were wondering, 24 hours later...he's still working on that bone...he's actually sleeping on top of it right now...silly boy! i guess it wore him out! :)

We are still trying to teach Sadie not to bark at people when they come in. She knows them and still barks. They walk out for a smoke and come right back in and she barks like she's never seen them before. We too give Sadie a chewy. They are almost like the bones only 3x3 squares. If we gave her a big bone like that she wouldn't stop until she was done with it.

Thank you for your kind words on my blog. I hope things will start looking up.
