tonite i got the wild hair to start my little landscaping project...well, its really not landscaping...and i'm not sure right now its a project either...but call it whatever you like...here's the plan!
obviously with us being in a "new construction" home, the landscaping here leaves a lot to be desired...but the problem is my crazy imagination...and frugal wallet...oh yeah, and the brown thumb...
all i'm sure of right now is that most of the plants in my yard that aren't hearty bushes are DEAD...so i've started digging them up...but lee and i had come up with the idea last fall to dig up our "natural area" and let our rampant grass have its way with the "kidney bean"**...easier to mow...no need to mow around it! and must have round-upped this area 5 times last year...our bermuda grass gets "fingers" and requires more trimming/edging instead of mowing
**ok, the kidney bean--its a natural area with sea oats (this is my name, not the real one...i don't like these because we are not at the beach and they're supposed to be brown???) and a cherry tree (dead) are planted...and the area is shaped like a...you guessed it...kidney bean. its right on the corner of our front yard... from here on out in my yard blogs this area will be referred to as the kidney bean :)
i haven't been able to get the last to masses of sea oats out...they're so big i can't drag them to the road...all 7 feet of the "journey"...mainly because i can't grab them good enough to drag 'em! dern it!
i've also learned (and still am) what areas of the house are very wet, very sunny, always shady (took a week for the snow to melt in these spots :) ...i didn't mind)
i'm hoping with a little help from mom (gardener extraordinaire...to me anyway) we'll get some cute, low maintenence plants...i am feeling motivated!! i love working in the yard, i just don't know what to work in it with! (no lee, this doesn't include mowing the grass...how could i deprive you of such joy?!)
most of the places i'd picked to "plant" i hit massive hunks of rock...well, this isn't entirely true--i still love the idea of vines crawling up my mailbox, and my lightpost....but what holds these things in the ground? yes, CONCRETE!! haha...duh, hannah!
anyway, back on topic!! i'm hoping to create some sort of flower bed...somewhere?? maybe by my front porch for me to enjoy while i'm on my swing :)
oh, and i have a row of what was supposed to be a spring-y flowering tree-bush plant (???) in front of my garage and was out messing around in the yard one day last fall, and come to find out it was 4 sticks stuck in the ground...deader than dead (yes, i "uprooted" them by practically sneezing on them!)
i'll do my best to be patient...more of a long term project?? ....dreaming of a crepe myrtle...and a gardenia bush!! patience has never been my thing...ever...
so, here's my ideas...i'll be sure to take pics to post of the "yard in progress"...hopefully it will turn out great!! advice is MORE than welcomed! bring it on!
...also, can't post about it now, but i'm really excited about FRIDAY!! stay tuned...i'm charging the camera battery as we speak and i've picked out my outfit! (this is partly the reason i feel like i'm typing very disorganized and jittery...i'm just too pumped!)...i will give you a hint...(not a very good one...ask lee, my hints are ridiculously hard and obscure!)...
its related to a previous post....that's all ya get! :-D

About your comment, John blamed this snow storm on him!!! Because he snow blowed around his motor cycle to melt the snow more. I think it back fired!!
I too have "spring fever" bad. I've been cleaning the inside of the house top to bottom.
H- I feel much better knowing Becky Rudder's going to be watching out for your green thumb too! (left a comment on her blog...)
